The Last Dragon Movie Review

The Last Dragon Movie Review
Martial Arts student Leroy Green (Taimak), also known as Bruce Leroy, believes there is more to learn about being a Kung Fu master, but his instructor thinks otherwise. This leaves Leroy searching for the final level – a supernatural glow that he gets all over his body. His lack of disbelief causes his instructor to give him a “charm” to help him boost his self-esteem about his abilities.

Along his journey, he encounters many adversities and obstacles such as the character Sho’nuff (Julias Carry) who continues to taunt him throughout the movie. He believes he is the “baddest mofo around.” There can only be one Kung Fu master and he believes he is it. His portrayal of this character is astounding. He moves the story along, showing he has no mercy to prove his point.

He also comes in contact with the crazy music producer, Eddie Arkadian, who wants his up and coming artist, Angela, to perform at Laura Child’s (Vanity) night club. He will do anything to get her in, even illegal activity. He truly believes Angela is the outstanding artist that will make him successful. He will not take no for an answer. However, Laura is not impressed. He continues to run into this obstacle, so he has to take matters into his own hands, trying to kidnap Laura.

Leroy intervenes, which only adds to the struggles of his journey because he drops his charm in the process. When he sees Laura on TV he wants to see her, but not because she’s beautiful or he wants to date her, he wants his charm. This is comical because his younger brother mocks him about making “moves” on a woman. Clueless Leroy doesn’t care; he only wants one thing.

When he is finally face-to-face with Laura, something changes within him. She gives him his charm, but Leroy might be feeling more than elation about that. It is the unease of the beauty that stands before him, that has him stumbling out the door.
Laura’s apparent attraction leaves her wanting more time with Leroy, but his lack of knowledge in this area leaves him slightly disconnected. However, the constant tension between the two characters creates a potential love interest that keeps you wondering what will happen next.

This tangled web of adventure makes for a great martial arts classic with an amazing moral.

If you want to watch a classic romantic comedy that has it all, you will love "The Last Dragon."
